Sample Humanities Paper. Ignorance is Strength. 1984 Today.

The chilling resemblance that our modern world has to that described in 1984 is a bit frightening at times. The loss of freedom and privacy can be seen in even the most cursory glance at our society. While many people seem to fix their attention on the issues of privacy (as it is a very relevant topic given the amount of electronic communication there currently is), there is another point that is of even greater importance which escapes the notice of many: education.

According to Bloomberg.com, the educational system of the United States, for example, is ranked at below average when compared to many other countries in an international test. A substandard educational system produces citizens who lack the full abilities of critical thinking and evaluation thus creating a very ignorant society indeed. When the people of a country lose their ability to observe, they can be afforded less freedom without much notice.

This can easily lead to a society wherein the populace believes they are free, yet they are monitored and controlled within an inch of their lives. The question is, are we already there?
If our governing body does truly desire an easily controllable population, then they are on the right track of attaining it. By keeping people uneducated and therefore ignorant, exerting control needs only be done with a small amount of tact. Wrap a bow around a lump of coal and people will gladly accept it. What’s worse is that as the situation continues, more people will be fully content with the lives they live, and a need of change will not be demanded. It may already be 1984 in 2015.
